Technology or human touch? The invisible value in selection processes

A real story that shows how the candidate experience can build -or destroy- a company’s reputation, even before hiring. At PSRH, we bet on an approach where artificial intelligence and human intelligence work in balance.

A few days ago, our CEO was talking with a colleague who had gone through a selection process for an important company in the IT sector. What began as a promising experience ended up revealing a major flaw we often see in the world of recruiting: the dehumanization of the process.

“The first interview was excellent. I felt they were listening to me, I got excited about the role and they confirmed I was moving forward,” she said.
But the initial enthusiasm faded in the face of a series of confusing signals:

  • Automatic replies, with no name or context
  • Unexplained delays
  • No clear update on the status of the process
  • The feeling of talking to a system, not to people

Meanwhile, another company —smaller, less well known, but much closer— was moving forward in parallel.
They wrote to her often, asked how she felt, explained every step.

And although that second position was not as ideal as the first, she ended up choosing it. A week before her onboarding, the first company showed up again:

“We want you to start on Monday.”

But it was already too late. Trust had been lost.

What does this story teach us?

At PSRH we often say it:

The best talents don’t leave for a better offer. They leave when they don’t feel treated like people.

This case is not isolated. Every day we see automated processes that, while they speed up tasks, neglect the most important thing: the candidate’s emotional experience.

It’s not about demonizing technology.
AI is useful when used strategically:

  • ✅ To filter large volumes of résumés
  • ✅ To detect patterns or streamline repetitive tasks
  • ✅ To improve the experience with immediate responses

But when automation replaces follow-up, professional judgment or a close touch, more than efficiency is lost: trust is lost.

Recruiting with human intelligence

In times when artificial intelligence dominates the headlines, we bet on something just as powerful:
human intelligence.

  • The kind that listens
  • The kind that responds with empathy
  • The kind that follows up for real
  • The kind that understands that every professional decision is also an emotional decision

And for that, there is still no algorithm that can replace it.
